PhoneGlow

Those who have a Nokia mobile phone probably don't like the background-light. Some models, especially the new once don't have the boring old green light. But how about us that have the green light then?

I'm going to show a quickie where I change the background-light from green to...you guessed it: Blue!
Bluled.co.uk has tutorials on how to change the LEDs for almost every Nokia phone. I recommend you read what they have to say before you try on your phone.
To be able to do this on your own you have to have some basic solder experience and knowledge and some cash ;) But the prices for these tinny LEDs aren't quite high. It cost me 14 Swedish crowns (~$1) per LED at nymax.nu (Swedish site) but they only got blue LEDs. With the cost of 8 LEDs and shipping the price landed on 161 crowns (~$16). Guys and girls who live in other contries can buy from firstphoneshop.co.uk, but there's many shops that sells LEDs to mobile phones.

After a couple of days the AVI (dispatch note) landed in the mailbox and I was off to the post office to get my package.

To my surprise this was the letter that I got. Quite big for so little I thought. But it was to be discovered that it was WAY to big for the contents. Inside the letter there was that little plastic bag and an A4 paper. You should have seen the look of my face when I realized that there wasn't any more in it. Quite unnecessary to use such big letter for so little. Oh well, their loss :)

To understand how small these LEDs are I took this picture with the mini LED beside a normal 5mm LED. Quite small, aren't they? :) That mini LED is the original from the phone. The once that I bought are even smaller. They are about the 2/3 of the length of the originals. I actually thought I had gotten the wrong size of the LEDs, but a quick email to the shop and I got an explanation that they were the right size, though they were smaller then originals.

The radioactive-sign is actually a piece of paper that lies behind the lcd. To do that little mod you just open the phone, screw the screws and put the picture between the lcd and the plastic sheet.

The first layer consists of the lcd and the plastic that it's placed on. Here it has been removed.
